12. Mood Board

Image
MOOD BOARD WHY HAVE I USED THESE IMAGES? I have used this selection of images and compiled them into a mood board to convey the visual energy I am reaching for. In this mood board, I have focused a lot on settings and costumes. The different locations seen are places I would like to use for inspiration in my video and the costumes coincide with how I view my artist's audience's sense of fashion. In some of these images, there are quotes or text: "healing happens in layers", "how to disappear" and "I shift my pillow closer to the full moon" are examples. The main reason surrounding my choice for including these lyrical words is simply because they are poetic and have a similar ring to some of Mitski's lyrics, therefore are very fitting as an inspiration to my video.   HOW DOES IT CONFORM TO EXPECTATIONS OF ANTHEM? This mood board conforms to the expectations of the anthem genre as it has a sense of community, as I feel that this is appealing to ...

11. Statement of Intent Draft

STATEMENT OF INTENT DRAFT How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief? (approx. 400 words) ✯   Write about the concept for your video. The concept for my video is based on the ideas of sexuality and relationships and how easy it is for people to miscommunicate and worry about themselves. This video will be about someone falling in love with another person, and they will reciprocate that love until the parentheses occur and they are left alone. There will be a parallel narrative throughout my video, almost in a circular structure where it begins with a person alone, leading to the romance and vulnerability, to the climax of the introduction of a third party person who interrupts this intimacy, and back to being alone, right where they started.     ✯   Write about how this concept will fit into the genre. This concept will fit into the genre of an anthem...

9. Perfect Audience Member

Image
Perfect Audience Member My music video will be targeting an aspirational audience between the ages of 16 and 25.    The perfect audience member for my music video is an audience who listen to alternative, indie rock, anthemic music. This audience member would be in the category of the 'trendies' according to https://www.uktribes.com. These are the type of people who are into fashion and who are inspiring.  These people love baked goods and would not mind spending a whole entire day in comfy clothes listening to music with a good cup of tea and making heart-shaped biscuits.

7. Things To Consider

Image
'Things To Consider' LIGHTING Lighting is something that I think is very important in a music video, as it has the ability to change the mood of the narrative, reinforcing the importance of the set, and also helping the audience in gaining a better understanding of the characters themselves. I am planning on using lighting to contrast the action between scenes. I will incorporate the visual juxtaposition of dark and light, further emphasising the clashing emotions and the characters' state of mind.    LIP-SYNC AND CONVINCING PERFORMANCE Lip-sync will be used at various points in my music video. A convincing performance is essential to my video and its narrative as it will increase the emotion and sympathy within the audience. It will also hopefully reinstate the representation throughout the video, creating a more normalised sense of humanity. DANCE An element of dance could assist a music video in representing different art forms. In using movement, I hope to present a...

6. Past Video Research

Image
MITSKI'S PREVIOUS VIDEOS WASHING MACHINE HEART: In Mitski’s Washing Machine Heart video, many elements are very appealing to Mitski’s time-specific target audience: a modern and minimalist set, a black and white recolour, and the use of body language. The minimalist set is reflecting the modernism of the time, the time being 2018 when Mitski released her Be the Cowboy album and Washing Machine Heart being a track included on said album. In the video, an element of the modernistic set contains a plant on a hexagonal cemented three-dimensional statue and another statue with Mitski herself leaning on it. Cement has become more popular over the decades, specifically to use as flooring as it inspires a rustic-type look into a home. However, an aspect that could argue against the point of a minimalistic set could be the introduction of ancient human statues. In modern-day society, these statues can be considered a modern element of a household, but they are not common and would maybe ...

5. Track of Choice

I BET ON LOSING DOGS - MITSKI Why this track? For my music video, I have chosen the song I Bet on Losing Dogs by Mitski. This song stood out to me for several reasons: 1. It is an anthem Mitski Miyawaki is a well known Japanese-American singer-songwriter. Her fan base grew to a new extent when she released her fifth album in 2018  Be The Cowboy and was described as "sad indie girl music" which appeals to a large population of the world, me included. I Bet on Losing Dogs is from her 2016 album Puberty 2 , which includes other well-known songs such as A Burning Hill and Y our Best American Girl . I would consider this song an anthem due to that consistent feeling of celebration and community, and also the key change at the second chorus really reinstates that feeling of togetherness.   2. The meaning of the song The meaning behind I Bet on Losing Dogs is essentially a metaphor for getting into relationships that are ill-fated from the beginning. This is shown through he...

4. Genre of Music Research

ANTHEM KEY ELEMENTS: “An anthem is a musical composition of celebration usually used as a symbol for a distinct group, particularly the national anthems of countries.” The anthem genre has a general sense of pride and contains music that brings people together. Anthems tend to encourage people and communities to dance and feel that strong sense of belonging and community and warmth within. ACTS WITHIN THE GENRE: Stereotypically, anthemic songs would usually be considered songs within the genres of dance and house with an upbeat rhythm and potentially a major chord progression. These tracks could typically have perfect cadence or a key change somewhere in the song leaving the listener with a sense of resolution leading to a happy and heartwarming feeling which is perhaps why some genres have greater audiences than others. 3. Record Company

Image
SONY MUSIC  Sony Music is a record company that signs promising and emerging artists to release and sell their music to build their company and benefit others. ARTISTS FORWARD   Artists Forward is a "new global initiative" that Sony Music has established to maximise and prioritise the assistance of their signed artists and music creators in "all aspects of their development". Within this creative enterprise, they have added many programmes for creators and artists to have that encouragement they need to thrive in the music industry.  THE PROGRAMMES: 1. Artist Assistance " A broad global effort aimed at promoting wellness for our signed talent and providing them with relevant information and key resources for their careers." This targets inexperienced artists who are perhaps emerging into the industry and need a 'helping hand' as such. This could be argued as a unique selling point for Sony Music as it proves that they care and will support their a...
